The rise of rock 'n' roll goes hand-in-hand with the rise of the American teenager. During the post-war baby boom, a generation of kids who'd been raised to believe they were "meant to be seen but not heard" began to make a little noise of their own. For the first time ever, teenagers carved out a significant slice of the American musical pie.
